Speaking
With experience of presenting to academic, student, business, and community audiences, I offer talks and lectures in the following areas:
Nature-based and adventure recreation
Narrative cartography
Nature Connectedness
Sustainable tourism and inspiring pro-environmental behaviour
Place attachment, place symbolism, and stewardship
Qualitative and visual research methods
My talks have included: a creative workshop on nature connection at Timber Festival; a walk and talk on wellbeing and environmental stewardship on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path with University of Victoria masters students; a deep dive into how nature connection and place attachment can inspire community-level action through the removal of single-use pollution for Trash Free Trails.
Consultancy
Get in touch if you require meaningful insights and projects relating to nature-based recreation, adventure, or sustainable tourism. I have experience of managing research projects with stakeholders such as National Park Authorities, SME tourism providers, environmental not-for-profits, and Universities. Projects I have worked on include:
Exploring the Transformational Potential of Adventure Experiences
How place symbolism can be used in voluntary income schemes
Single-Use Pollution and Nature Connection
Designing walking trails
Developing rural community-based tourism
Regenerative tourism
Facilitation
I have experience of facilitating workshops, indoors and outdoors, that inspire participants to creatively and critically explore the above areas. Hearing the thoughts of others and creating this atmosphere of shared thinking and idea generation is something that always inspires me.
I can help facilitate workshops relating to visitor experience and engagement, integrating nature connection into outdoor recreation and adventure contexts, and designing tools to encourage meaning-making. Using my Root Maps approach, we can explore where and how to tell stories that encourage reflection and connection in your landscape, site, or space.
